Acupuncture FAQ

What is your treatment style & Approach?

Traditional Chinese medicine includes many techniques beyond acupuncture. I often use supportive modalities in a session including:

  • Tui Na (Chinese medical massage)

  • Cupping

  • Moxibustion

  • Gua sha

  • Nutritional evaluation and counseling

  • Lifestyle evaluation and counseling

Additionally, my graduate studies took a deep dive into various styles of acupuncture including Traditional Chinese Medicine, Acupuncture Physical Medicine (APM), Japanese Meridian Acupuncture, and Kiiko Matsumoto Style of Acupuncture (KMS). I also studied Dr. Tan’s Balance Method, and Five Element after earning my Master’s Degree.

Based on my experience, I apply the style (or blending of styles) and approach that is best suited to each specific patient and their conditions. No treatment is the same, but it depends on what the person needs. With that said, I have a very hands on approach and utilize the power of touch when it comes to diagnosis and treatment (especially effective for treating acute and chronic pain!).

How many acupuncture sessions will I need?

Most people require a minimum of 6-8 weekly treatments for acute conditions, or two to three months of weekly treatments for chronic conditions. For all OBGYN concerns, I recommend weekly sessions for three months, because each week of our monthly cycle has different treatment needs, and since our fertility and menstrual cycles reflects our health during the past 90 days.

What To Expect

Overall, acupuncture is a deeply relaxing experience. Patients usually doze off during a session and leave feeling grounded and refreshed.

Please eat an hour or so before our session and try to arrive five minutes before our scheduled time.

New Patients

Your first session will start with a detailed intake prior to treatment, in which we’ll discuss your health history, chief complaint and overall health. From there, you’ll receive an acupuncture treatment in my relaxing, quiet space. I’ll walk you through the session step by step, and offer a course of treatment and recommendations following your rest.

Returning Patients

Each return patient session begins with a discussion of your progress, current symptoms, and our focus for the treatment.

From there, you’ll enjoy an acupuncture treatment tailored specifically for your constitution, condition and individual needs.
